SouthSport has provided to Recreation Enthusiasts for more than 20 Years!  In fact, Scott Leonard began Guiding Canoe and Kayak trips along the Edisto River in 1986 as a part-time hobby.  The hobby continued as he began establishing various business ventures, staying in touch with the outdoors and recreation lovers on the weekend.  As Mr. Leonard became successful in Business, providing Consulting and Marketing Services, he continued to enjoy the weekend adventures, as well as the great friendships and alliances made while enjoying the Great Outdoors.

In 1989, he opened a retial store to display recreational equipment to the public, and followup with interested parties in the evening or on the weekend.  The store grew and changed names a couple times.  His Footprint in the industry was securely founded as he expanded the retail store, as well as on-water guided tour and rental outposts along the rivers of South Carolina.

He became known as the only outfitter that can and would handle canoe/kayak guided tours of more than 50 people.  In fact, he became famous for Monster trips of more than 100, 200, and even 300 people on a single guided trip.  The organization and arrangement of guides, as well as training in order to manage the groups was crucial.  Those that know the Edisto River know it can be a deadly river.  Mr. Leonard strove for a ratio of 1 Guide for every 5 boats on the water.  Imagine a single file line of 385 people plus guide boats!  That was the scene one weekend.  Outfitters from other states would volunteer their time, employees, and equipment in order to attend, learn how to manage such an event, and train their employees with on hand training from the best in the industry.

Two trademarks easily identified Mr. Leonard's operations:
1.) The Canoe/Kayak Display on a Roof,, or at the Road, normally with a Manikin representing a Paddler.
2.) Monster Canoe/Kayak Trailer designed to put 100 People plus Guide Boats on the water at once!

The economy took a toll on the industry causing the business to be downsized.
While Mr. Leonard continued to pursue his corporate endeavors, he has always sought to be involved in outdoor recreation.

Currently, Mr. Leonard has relocated to San Diego, in Southern California.  The move was a strategic move with regards to the Software, Consulting, and Technologies Services for which he is also very well known in.
